I talked to my supervisor today. There's a professional restoration team in charge of cleaning the library. They have to wipe down EVERY SINGLE BOOK. In a three story building. The basement has the tech services (cataloging) department and the book sale rooms. The team is starting on the second floor, and the circulation and children's staff had to go into their workroom and clear everything out. Nora said that when they get down to the first floor, we'll probably have to go in and do that as well. When we do, I'm taking my cardigan home and washing it! Yes, I keep a cardigan at work. It gets cold there sometimes. Anyway, due to the immense amount of time it will take them to clean, it will be at least two months before we can reopen to the public. Let me repeat that: TWO MONTHS. All of the programming has been cancelled through the end of the year. I'm sad because I had stuff at my desk that may be ruined now that I wanted to keep: my "welcome Erika" sign and my thank you note from a patron come to mind right now. So, until we can go back downtown, I'll be working in Spring Lake, which sucks for Jason, since he's taking me to work and all.
