I'm learning a lot about the former POTUSes.
- George Washington was the only one not affiliated with any party when he entered office.
- John Tyler was kicked out of the Whig party in 1841, meaning he served most of his presidency unaffiliated.
- William Henry Harrison was in fact, in office for exactly one month. March 4-April 4.
- George Clinton was the VP for both Jefferson and Madison and looks nothing like someone who should be leading the P-Funk.
- Since 1900, there have been 12 Republicans and and 7 Democrats.
- The first Democrat president (in terms of the current party, I guess) was Andrew Jackson, 1829-1837.
- The first Republican president (in current terms) was Abe Lincoln, 1861-1865. (I actually didn't know his dates!)
- The following died in office of natural causes: WH Harrison, Taylor, Harding, and FDR, along with numerous VPs.
- Nixon is the only one to resign.
- The following were assassinated: Lincoln (duh), Garfield, McKinley, and JFK (no, really?).
- Cleveland was kind of a fatty, possibly as big as Taft.
- Cleveland actually won the popular vote in 1888, but Benjamin Harrison was the one elected by the college. But it's not like that was the only time that happened, I just thought it was interesting since Cleveland served 2 non-consecutive terms.
- John Quincy Adams was the first president to have his picture taken. It was a daguerreotype taken 14 years after he left office.
