nerds!

Yesterday was what? Oh right, opening day! Woo! I had to work, but I had espn.com and their gamecast thing up. Even so, that didn't really let me know the awesomeness that happened at the end of the game. Thankfully, Jason recorded the game so I could see the end. That was utter insanity! Two blocked kicks? Well done Iowa! Next Saturday, I'll have the gamecast back up, since I'm working again. I hope nothing weird happens again, because Jason's probably not going to be able to watch or record it.

Yesterday was also Librari-con at work. It's a little comic/anime con that the teen librarian started in 2007. I've decided that, with the exception of the first year, something happens each year that causes some sort of hiccup that day. Last year a hurricane blew through and caused flooding and rain that made some people stay away and made some of the festivities move indoors. This year there was a power surge about half an hour before it started that caused the server to go berserk. Some of the people in the artist's alley needed wireless and we weren't sure they'd be able to use it. And then there was an issue in the computer training lab that was caused by the server. Oh well. What will happen at Librari-con 2010?

The con itself was pretty cool. It was different having a bunch of teens running around the library in costume yelling and laughing. But they were having a good time, and some of them were getting books too. :) The other library patrons were visibly weirded out. One woman came to the desk and asked me if she should go home and change. I laughed and said only if she wanted to. We had to explain what was going on (both the kids in costume and internet not working) a lot. Highlights of the day:
  • getting my picture taken with Darth Vader
  • getting a picture of a guy dressed as Harvey Birdman (Attorney at law)
  • listening to Darth Vader and Boba Fett discussing where to go eat lunch
  • seeing a picture on facebook of my neighbor and her friend who ran into Vader, Boba Fett, and whatever General they were with outside of the library
  • listening to Rainbow Brite's delusional declaration that she could beat Vader with her star power. Whatever, he'd kill her before she even knew he was there
  • Tiffany's brother telling me I could caption any of the pictures I took "here's some nerds..."
Today work was really quiet, slow and boring. Especially compared with yesterday. Tomorrow the library is closed, and I'm planning to spend the day reading the series of unfortunate events books (I have 5 left), watching some of the bazillion episodes of Eureka in the DVR, and doing laundry.

I would like to say a big thanks to Jon for his book suggestions. Thank you! I've already read Crime and Punishment, but I kind of want to read it again. And I want to read everything you suggested!

And one final note to end this: I love love love love Omar Little.
